Risk Favors the Bold!

For our last release of 2017, we have Moyashimon chapters 123, 124 and 125 from volume 11, which we just barely managed to get done before the end of the month. We would have liked to have gotten this out sooner, but then back when we started this series, we didn't really think we'd already be on volume 11 by the end of the year, so all in all, our pacing hasn't been that bad, even considering a few breaks we've had to take between volumes here and there. This is still one of the most difficult projects we've ever done, though, so naturally it takes a long time to get through even a single volume, but it's more than worth it for an incredible series such as this one.

All in all, this was a pretty interesting year for us. We saw the release of Ayumi Komura's Taiyou x Ten BL one-shot after waiting for it for a couple of years, we decided to pick up Moyashimon in one of our most ambitious projects to date, and we even finally finished Kuragehime after working on it for over seven years. Add to that picking up a new gender bender series by Ayumi Komura (Kamieko), completing another gender bender series by Fumiko Fumi (Josou Danshi to Menhera Oji-san), Nisekoi Boyfriend getting a second volume, and completing Ookami Shounen, and this year had a lot of great moments to remember. The only other series we picked up this year was LiLy by Mayo Ebisawa, but it went on hiatus almost immediately afterwards.

This also was the year that we saw two of our previous projects get licensed, both by Seven Seas Entertainment: Nanashi no Asterism and Hanayome wa Motodanshi. So it's good to see them getting official releases so that perhaps more people will read them, as well as Kuragehime, the only other one of our projects to get licensed. So yeah, in seven years, only three of our dozens of projects have been licensed, which just goes to show you that despite there being more opportunities for gender bender series to get licensed nowadays, the vast majority of gender bender series will still never get licensed, and that is exactly why we do what we do, and we hope you continue to enjoy our releases in the future. Despite there not being that many series we picked up this year, there are always new series on the horizon, and we're always looking to pick up some good ones to share.

Now for the year-end update for all of our projects. First of all, we'll be working on Moyashimon v11 for the time being until it's complete, and then we will work on Kamieko v03 that just came out a few days ago. The only volumes that have projected release periods are Mizutama Honey Boy v08 around March or April, and Shiomi-chan v04 around May or June. Although we completed Ookami Shounen, we're still waiting for volume 5 to come out to complete it with those raws, and that'll be out sometime early next year, perhaps February or March. And Seito Kaichou will continue on a monthly basis.

Our other three projects are a lot harder to pin down. Shimanami Tasogare is still ongoing, but we don't know when volume 4 will be released, although we can be reasonably sure that it won't be out until late 2018.

Shounen Oujo has been on hiatus since June with currently 3 chapters not in a volume, so when it does return, it probably won't take that long until volume 6 comes out. However, we don't know when it will continue, so we're hoping that volume 6 will come out sometime in 2018. The longest hiatus for Shounen Oujo to date has been 2 years, so six months into this most recent hiatus, we just hope we don't have to wait that long for the next volume, as this is now our oldest ongoing project from when we released the first chapter 6 years ago today on December 31, 2011. But we're still hopeful that we'll see it completed someday.

Speaking of hiatuses, as mentioned above, LiLy has been on hiatus since March due to the author's maternity leave. We had assumed that the manga would continue sometime in late 2017, but now that that hasn't happened, we're not really sure what's going on with this series. Mayo Ebisawa might still be on maternity leave, but it's been quite a long time already for that. The manga is still on Ura Sunday's website, though, so we assume that means it hasn't been canceled. All we can do at this point is wait and see if it comes back or not, but there's no way of knowing when that will be.

But for now, we'll be working on Moyashimon as we inch ever closer to its eventual conclusion. We hope 2017 had been a good year for you, and that perhaps some of our releases gave you some enjoyment. Come back again in 2018 for another gender bender-filled year as we wish all of you a Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas Eve! Now we come to the end of Shiomi-chan volume 3 with chapters 16 and 17. As stated at the end of the volume, the next volume will be out sometime in the middle of 2018, so we're thinking either May or June.

The Truth is...

At last, it is time for the final chapter of Ookami Shounen with chapter 32. We've now been working on this series for almost three years, and during that time, it has become an amazing series, and one we loved every minute of working on it. Although it would have been nice to see it go beyond just 5 volumes, the story was paced very well for that outcome, so we're not complaining or anything; better for a story to end when it ends instead of dragging it out forever. We're gonna really miss this series, and we're sure we won't be alone in that sentiment.

As for what comes next, we still intend to redo all the web chapters when volume 5 actually comes out next year, so although this is the end of the series, we're not completely done with this series just yet. So we hope you all enjoy the final chapter of this wonderful series.

Edit: If you were having trouble extracting the rar files, they've been reuploaded.

And on an unrelated, but still relevant note, you may have noticed a bit of inactivity on our part lately. We're going to try to return to being regularly active soon, but our next release may not come for another week or more, so just rest assured that we'll be back soon.

Ghosts of the Past!

With the release of Shimanami Tasogare chapters 14 and 15, we now come to the end of volume 3. As far as we know, the Manga One app hasn't posted any chapters beyond chapter 15, although new chapters will probably start appearing sometime early next year. And we don't know what the release schedule will be like when that happens, so we really don't know when the next volume will come out. It'll probably be out sometime next year, but we're thinking mid- to late-2018 depending on the release schedule.

Next up, we'll be working on Shiomi-chan v03.

The Age of Jellyfish Will Never End!

With the release of Kuragehime chapter 84, the series now comes to an end, which also includes Akiko Higashimura's final afterword with her last comments for the series. The chapter title may not be a reference to anything, since it's just the series' English title, but it could be a reference to the 2011 Japanese movie Princess Toyotomi, although there's no way to know for sure.

Seven years ago, when we picked up a little-known series called Kuragehime as one of our initial projects, we really didn't know much about scanlating, and our earliest releases back then certainly show our inexperience. For that reason, we're very thankful that Kodansha USA ultimately licensed the series and gave the series a proper release, which as of now is 3 volumes away from completion. At the time the manga was licensed in mid-2015, we had already completed 15 volumes, and since we knew at the time that the series was very close to ending anyway, we made the decision to continue it all the way to the end. However, we still would suggest buying the official volumes if you can, as they are much better quality than anything we did back then. In addition, the last volume slated for June 2018 will contain over 100 pages of additional content, so that is a must-buy for any Kuragehime fan.

Kuragehime is very much a modern classic that I feel will continue to be read and re-read for generations of manga fans, as it is a manga that is very relatable to a lot of people, even if you don't have a particular interest in the fashion industry or even gender bender manga. It's popularity in recent years is certainly a testament to that (which Higashimura even comments on in the afterword of this volume), and we hope that its staying power will continue for years to come.

Kuragehime wasn't always a particularly easy series to work on, but over time, it actually got easier as we got more experienced. There were a lot of things we loved about the series, and of course a few things that were kind of annoying, but the uniqueness of the characters, art and storytelling made it one of the best projects we worked on. Back when we picked it up, there were only 5 volumes out, with the sixth volume coming out only a month later while the anime was still airing. We really could never have imagined at the time that the series would eventually balloon to 17 volumes totaling 2,919 pages, but it was worth it buying all 17 volumes. So Kuragehime had a really good run, and even though we would have loved to have seen what happens after the final chapter, we're glad that we got a chance to see it all the way to the end.

Like Higashimura says at the end, Kuragehime went by in a flash, but it will always be a series we think back on, re-read, and overall feel grateful to Higashimura for creating it in the first place, and we hope you feel the same way. There may never be another series quite like Kuragehime, but we look forward to see what Higashimura does in the future, especially since she hasn't started a new manga in a couple of years, so we're thinking she'll probably do a new series next year now that Kuraghime (and her other manga Tokyo Tarareba Musume) is now finished.

Farewell Kuragehime! We'll never forget you!

Put Your Trust in Jellyfish!

And now here's Kuragehime chapter 83, leaving just one more (lengthy) chapter in the series. It's been a wild ride, but it's hard to believe that we're almost at the finish line after more than 7 years. The chapter title comes from the 2016 movie Shin Godzilla, also known as Godzilla: Resurgence.

Expect the Unexpected!

It's been over a year since we last worked on this, but Shimanami Tasogare finally returns with chapter 11 at the start of volume 3. As of right now, this volume contains all of the released chapters, so once this volume is complete, we'll be all caught up with it until new chapters begin appearing again on the Manga One app, which is where it will be serialized now after Hibana ceased publication last August.

The Jellyfish is in the Details!

After waiting for more than a year and a half, the time has finally come to start the 17th and final volume of Kuragehime with chapter 82, meaning there's only 2 chapters left to go because each of the last 3 chapters is about 50 pages long. The chapter title comes from the 2008 movie 27 Dresses.

Kuragehime means a lot to us, not only because it was one of the few series we originally began with as a scan group over 7 years ago, but because we've come to really love Akiko Higashimura's unique style of art and storytelling that really sets her apart from most other shoujo/josei authors. This was a series that we perhaps started at a time when we were a little too inexperienced to tackle a series like this for various reasons, but over the course of this series, we've grown by leaps and bounds, and now stand here after all this time on the verge of ending our longest ongoing project from when we picked it up right at the very beginning. So whether you've been reading it for as long as we have, or have just recently discovered this series, we're glad you're here to see the end of one of our most cherished projects.

Home is Where the Heart is!

Finally, after a lot of work at the end of this volume, Moyashimon volume 10 ends with chapters 120, 121 and 122, which also includes a large amount of bonus content at the end. However, we have to take another break from this series for about a month while we work on a few of our other projects, so please look forward to volume 11 in December. And so, we have just three volumes and 37 chapters left, which is just about 1/4 of the series left to go.

In the meantime, Kuragehime's 17th and final volume was just released, and we will be working on that next, along with Shimanami Tasogare v03 which we will be working on the same time as Kuragehime. Once both of those volumes are done, we're going to work on Shiomi-chan v03, and then Moyashimon v11. The only other one of our projects that's getting another volume this year is Kamieko v03 at the end of December.

It's been a long break of more than seven months with this series, but here are Mizutama Honey Boy chapters 29 and 30 from the start of volume 7. Just Us Girls!

After nearly three months, Kami-sama no Ekohiiki returns with chapters 6 and 7 from volume 2. Working on a series by Ayumi Komura in October always brings back memories of when we were just starting out as a scanlation group with Usolily all those years ago, and as mentioned before, we're thrilled that she's decided to do another gender bender series since (at least we feel) those are the series where she really shines as an author and sets her apart from most other shoujo manga authors.

On an unrelated note, we later updated this in the previous post and also tweeted about it, but Shimanami Tasogare v03 will be coming out on November 15, and we will be working on it shortly thereafter with Kuragehime v17 which comes out a couple days before that.

Fight for What You Love!

Finally, we now come to the end of Moyashimon volume 9 with chapters 108, 109 and 110. That leaves only 4 volumes and 49 chapters left in the series. Coincidentally, it's been almost exactly 10 years since the first anime's premiere, and honestly, we never could have guessed that 10 years later after first watching that anime that we'd be relatively close to completing the manga, or that we'd even be working on it at all, that being three years before Hachimitsu Scans was even formed. But we're as committed as ever in finishing this series, because it is without a doubt one of the most unique and incredible manga we've ever encountered. However, we'll be taking a short break with this series so we can do a couple of our other projects, which I'll get to in a minute.

Tomorrow is also our seventh anniversary as a scanlation group. For the past seven years, we have been scanlating primarily gender bender-related series, which was largely born out of the fact that gender bender series were and still are often overlooked by most scan groups for one reason or another, and even to this day, you'd be hard pressed to find any other group who has done as many gender bender-related series as we have. So over the past seven years, we've released well over 1,000 chapters from dozens of series and even more authors (thanks to all the one-shots we've done, primarily from the Josou Shounen series) across over 900 posts to this blog that's been viewed over 4.1 million times. We've also received $1,440 since we've started accepting donations (in 2011), which has aided us greatly in the purchasing of raws, and pretty much the only way we can actively show thanks for that is in trying to start and finish individual volumes relatively quickly, especially since a lot of our projects have long periods of time between volume releases. So we thank everyone for their support over the years, and hope to continue for years to come.

And now for an update on our projects and what we'll be doing for the rest of the year. First of all, as mentioned above, we are taking a short break from Moyashimon so we can work on Kami-sama no Ekohiiki v02 and Mizutama Honey Boy v07, which we'll be working on simultaneously. However, we will probably finish both of those this month, so we expect to get back to Moyashimon before the end of October. Following this, Shiomi-chan v03 comes out on November 10, and Kuragehime's 17th and last volume is finally going to be coming out on November 13, and we are going to give priority to it shortly thereafter so we can complete our oldest project that we've been working on since the very beginning seven years ago, so we are extremely excited about that next month. But after Kuragehime's and Shiomi-chan's volumes are done, we'll again be working on Moyashimon all the way through the end of the year and into next year so we can finally complete it.

As for our other projects, Shounen Oujo has been on hiatus since June, and there's really no way to know when it'll be coming back. Similarly, LiLy has also been on hiatus since March, even though we had suspected that it would have restarted by now because the author took a break because of maternity leave, so we'll just have to wait and see. As for Shimanami Tasogare, since the magazine it was in, Hibana, was recently discontinued, the manga has restarted serialization on the Manga One app, but it'll probably take a while until the next volume comes out, probably not until June to August of next year. Shimanami Tasogare v03 will be out on November 15, much earlier than we expected, and we'll be working on it with Kuragehime when they arrive a few days later. Other than those three, Ookami Shounen and Seito Kaichou will continue on a monthly basis.

And on an unrelated note, there was recently a video posted interviewing Hisashi Eguchi, the author of Stop!! Hibari-kun! that we worked on a couple years ago. Of interest in the video is Eguchi's interest to work on manga again, and suffice it to say, we would jump at the chance to work on it if such a manga ever materialized. So if you read Hibari-kun, the video is an interesting look into the author.

So we hope you enjoy the end of Moyashimon volume 9 as we draw ever closer to its completion.

After quite a bit of work over the past week, we finally begin Moyashimon volume 9 with chapters 99, 100 and 101, finally surpassing the 100th chapter milestone. Part of the reason that these chapters took so long is because they were incredibly wordy and incredibly technical, even by Moyashimon's lofty standards on both of those fronts. Beer Knows No Bounds!

Finally, after a lot of work over the past three chapters, we come to the end of Moyashimon volume 8 with chapters 96, 97 and 98, which also includes some bonus content at the end. That means we're now only five volumes and 61 chapters away from the ending, which is approaching much faster than even we initially anticipated considering how much work goes into this series as a whole.

And coincidentally, this release almost perfectly coincides with the real Oktoberfest which will kick off in Munich in just two days. Considering we've been releasing chapters from this manga for a little over six months, it's a pretty incredible coincidence, to be honest, since we couldn't have anticipated when we'd finish volume 8 back when we began the series. So we'll just chalk it up to fate.

In other news, Mizutama Honey Boy v07 recently came out, but we won't have it until later in the month because it's in the same order as Kami-sama no Ekohiiki v02 which comes out in 11 days. So in the meantime, we'll be doing Moyashimon v09, and the next Ookami Shounen chapter will also be released soon.

You Are What You Brew!

It's finally time to start Moyashimon volume 8 with chapters 87, 88 and 89. Even though there was a lot from the first 7 volumes that never made it into the anime (almost all of volume 3, for instance), scanlating volume 8 definitely has a different feel to it knowing that nothing beyond volume 7 was adapted. So although there may never be a third anime season, at least the manga will live on forever.

Microbes Never Lie!

Moyashimon volume 7 comes to an end with chapters 84, 85 and 86, which also has a little bonus content at the end. This marks the last bit of the manga that was adapted in the anime. Now on to volume 8.
