What's in a Name?
We said we had picked up a new series, and here it is: the first two chapters of Bokura no Hentai by Fumiko Fumi. Ever since we saw it start serialization in Comic Ryuu just this past March, we knew we had to pick it up when the first volume was released, which just happened to be earlier this month. In a way, it's similar to Hourou Musuko, so fans of that series should enjoy this one too.
The story centers around three boys in junior-high who cross-dress for their own personal reasons. "Parou" wanted to catch the attention of a heterosexual boy he liked, so adopted a female persona. "Yui" takes on the persona of his dead older sister Yui. Lastly, "Marika" is transgendered. They met through a community website and decided to have an offline meeting.

That was not at all what I expected when you guys mentioned you had a new series. It's very refreshing, different, and I love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you soooo much :)
Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI like it! Can't wait for next chapters! Thanks for hard work!~
ReplyDeleteWow I can tell from those two chapters that this will be a nice and serious little series! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteVery nice!
ReplyDeleteEeeeeh~!! Please please please continue translating this for as long as possible!
ReplyDeleteAs a request from a fellow transsexual, please translate Marika's pronouns as female if they're not specifically masculine. Marika-chan would be sad if you always call her like a boy~
I would like to second this request as well
DeleteCan't wait to see how this one plays out.
ReplyDeleteThank you! ^.^
ReplyDeleteWas already side-eying you guys so hard for constantly throwing "trap" around. Now you're deliberately misgendering characters. Not cool. It's getting more and more difficult to enjoy your releases.
ReplyDeleteAs was said previously, there is no term in English that accurately conveys what 男の娘 is other than 'trap'. Some may find the term offensive, but there's really nothing we can do about that. Blame the animanga community who coined the term years ago. It was probably 4chan's /a/ that first used it, or at least popularized the term. Personally, I find trap a lot less offensive that other viable alternatives like 'girly-boy' or something. I see trap as more of a tongue-in-cheek to the 男の娘 genre.
DeleteAs for 'deliberately misgendering characters', we know this is a delicate issue, and if it makes you feel better, we'll start to refer to Marika as 'her/she' wherever it's appropriate, which as far as we can tell, is only in those bonus pages at the end of every chapter. Marika's the only one who's transgendered, after all.
Those bonus pages are the only ones that truly struck me as mislabeled.
DeleteAs for the whole "trap" term, I don't see a problem with it and I am one. It's not meant to imply a trap is intentionally tricking someone, it's just a word. And it's better than a lot of other things I've been called.
I just read both chapters, and I love it <3 ! it's an adorable cute series, I look forward to the next releases >o< !
ReplyDeleteThank you very much :)
ReplyDeleteI really look forward to the next chapter!
Thank you so much, this manga is so precious!
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU! I'm really looking forward to more releases for this series ~ it's wonderful!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, this looks and sound really good, I'm going to give it a go with ya! Thanks for the releases!
ReplyDeleteI hope you release another chapter soon! This one cut off at an interesting part.
ReplyDeleteI'm just wondering about one thing... I just started reading this, and saw Marika said "I'm not a boy", yet Marika is still referred to as a boy, and in the last bonus pages "he\him" pronouns is used. Is this how it originally is in the manga, or is it just your interpretation of it?
ReplyDeleteIt was partially out interpretation at the time, but Marika is referred to as a boy by other characters (and the author in some instances) early on. I believe the pronouns on the bonus pages were changed from ch. 3 on, though.
DeleteOh, thank you for replying so quickly ^^ I was a bit unsure if I wanted to continue reading this, but as long as Marika isn't misgendered, I think I'll continue reading this
