Sometimes, Cross-dressing is the Only Answer!
For our second pickup this year, we are proud to present to you chapter 1 of Ookami Shounen wa Kyou mo Uso o Kasaneru (The Boy Who Cried Wolf Tells Another Lie Today) by namo. It started serialization in Enterbrain's Famitsu Comic Clear online magazine last August, so it's a new series with currently one volume out. Right when we saw this series, we knew we had to do it, so we hope you enjoy it. The first chapter is also a massive 60 pages.
Ookami Shounen tells the story of Keitarou Itsuki, a high school student unhappy about the menacing look of his eyes. Keitarou tries to confess to the girl he likes, Aoi Tokujira, but she rejects him flat out. Thinking that his eyes were the reason why she rejected him, he confides in his older sister about it at her salon, who helps by giving him a complete makeover...as a pretty girl! Forced to head home like this, he runs into Aoi in town, but she doesn't recognize him and thinks he's a somewhat manly girl. Before he can leave, Aoi asks him to help her overcome a problem she's had for many years: an intense fear of men.
Next up, we're finally getting back to some more Hibari.

ohhh. Thanks for the new series. This already has a volume out, right? Do you guys have it already?
ReplyDeleteWe are using the volume's raws.
DeleteWhy not use the source from famitsu or comicwalker instead of all the extra scanning and cleaning work for the tanko?
DeleteThe scanning and cleaning from the tank is rather miniscule in comparison to editing and redrawing the pages, which optimally should be scanned at 300dpi for b/w pages, and 600dpi for color, and that's unlikely for raws available for free from famitsu, comicwalker, etc. We did use the two color pages provided on famitsu's website for the title page of this release, but that's only because the tank's version was in b/w, and we thought it'd be much better to use the color version. Other than all that, we've pretty much bought every volume of manga we've worked on, the only exceptions being those specifically taken from magazine scans that we got from a raw provider (our Waai and Himegoto releases were and are provided by NJMANGA from Deus Ex Scans, for instance). There are a few other reasons, but that's basically the gist of it.
DeleteWell another major plus is preserving the screentones. The very nature of scanning mucks them up with moire patterns. (And IMHO we're not a replacement in quality for buying the book anyways) And your final image export is going to be 72dpi anyways. So with not having to do leveling, cleaning, etc. you don't even really need the resolution with most redraws being clone stamp. Maybe you have more automation than I do, but I find debinding, scanning, cropping, leveling, cleaning, stitching, etc. to be nowhere near an insignificant amount of time compared to quality differences. (Which may be slightly higher in resolution, but sacrifice the awful screentones)
Delete(I'm not saying don't buy the books to support the author, but that doesn't mean you have to use them anymore for scanlation *shrug*)

PS: I've got my copy as well :) Very HQ dust jacket, I must say.
I see your point, and thanks for the input. While not having to scan and pre-clean the pages certainly saves some time, there is still a certain amount of benefit from working from the volume scans, and if we're going to buy the volumes anyway, we might as well use them. That's the way we've always done it, at least.
DeleteThis seems pretty interesting so far. Thanks for bring this to us!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Quick question: Is there an ETA on that extra chapter of Usotsuki Lily that features Taiyou x Ten? I need proper closure in that BL romance ;____;
ReplyDeleteWe don't know when it'll be released, but it might come out sometime in the next few months.
Delete10 bucks says the girl he likes is actually a trap.
ReplyDelete10/10 would read again.
Thank you hachimitsu for the great work!
I dislike the English subtitle for the series title ... it's so awkward. Maybe my thinking is wrong, but while "ookami shounen" literally is defined as "boy who cried wolf" -- I don't really think that was the intended meaning.
ReplyDeleteI construed it to be related to how "boys are all wolves after girls" and the MC is literally a "wolf in sheep's clothing" with how he disguises to hang out with Tokujira. And he doesn't cry wolf -- he just "piles on lies" with how he continues to mislead everyone about who he is.
It should really be something more like "The Wolf Tells Another Lie Today" or something similar, I would think.
