Be Careful What You Wish For!

Now that we have a little bit of time to kill before many of our other projects restart later this year, we decided to first start out with the 1-volume series Hana wa Nisemono by Hiroko Sengoku. Mori and Ayumu are a gay couple in college in a happy relationship. However, after Ayumu prays at a shrine for them to always be together, the shrine's deity intervenes by turning him into a girl, and now everyone except for them think Ayumu has always been a girl.

We were instantly drawn to this series for the cute art and basic premise, which although being a gender bender, is new territory for us, since we've never done a magical gender transformation like this before. And it's relatively perfect timing too, since even though this manga originally appeared online way back in late 2012, it only just got a completed volume a couple of weeks ago, and we were lucky enough to stumble across it now before another group picked it up.

  1. This makes no sense. I mean, the fact that Mori's involved in a romantic and sexual relationship with another guy makes him a homoromantic homosexual. Once Ayumu turns into a girl, doesn't that mean their relationship would end, since there's no sexual or romantic attraction on Mori's part? Well, I suppose he could be biromantic/panromantic and/or bisexual/pansexual, but unless the mangaka finds it fit to at least hint at that at some point, it'll continue to seem like a gimmick to make a typical heterosexual relationship look more "interesting." And what about Ayumu's sexuality and romantic orientation? Will ze start to be attracted to women instead? Or still be attracted to men, which would now make him/her a heterosexual and heteroromantic transgender person? Ah, well. Shall give it a go and see, but only after I have some reader comments/reviews to go on so I know what to expect!

    1. Is it not enough to continue loving a person for who they are and not what they are?
