There Will Always Be a Way!

And now for something totally unexpected. In what amounts to the most delayed release ever, here are Shounen Oujo chapters 32, 33 and 34, the most recent chapters released for the series as of when the latter part of 34 was released way back in June 2017.

The reason why I didn't release these before was mainly because I was waiting to see if the series would come back from its most recent hiatus and then release volume 6, but that just never happened. On top of that, Comic It, the magazine that Shounen Oujo was serialized in from 2015 to 2017 after it transferred from Sylph, was discontinued with the release of its final issue in February 2018, and then the website stopped hosting anything in November 2018.

In addition to that, the author Utako Yukihiro replied to someone on Twitter back in December 2018 who was asking about the status of Shounen Oujo. And this is what she said:

"Thanks for the reply! I'm sorry for making you wait for Shounen Oujo for a while now. The serialization has currently been halted, and it's continued to be difficult to get it restarted, but please look forward to it once it restarts...!"

The tweet seems to imply that the series may restart someday, but seeing as how it's been nearly 2 years since a new chapter was released, if it does ever come back, it may not be for a while still, if ever. Yukihiro has other manga and projects that she's involved in, so she's just been busy with other stuff.

It's a shame that even after working on this series on and off for about the past 7 and a half years that it still hasn't been completed, and that's despite how it seemed to be reaching a climax at the end of volume 5. This has always been a series that's been in the back of my mind, hoping to see more of it someday, and Yukihiro's above tweet is the only reason why I still have a little bit of hope that it will eventually continue.

If it does come back, new chapters will probably appear on the series' pixiv comic, Comic Walker and Niconico Seiga pages, the latter of which even has the latter half of chapter 34 (sometimes listed as 34.5). Of note at the end of that chapter was that there's a notice saying that it was planned to continue in volume 22 of Comic It released back in August 2017, but I can fully confirm that this did not happen, and that the latter half of chapter 34 was the last chapter released in June 2017.

So hopefully this will not be the last post for Shounen Oujo, but even if it is, I'll just say that I really loved this series. The art and story are phenomenal and it continued to be gripping with the introduction of new characters and situations going from volume to volume, in addition to the characterization and backstories given to some of the key characters. It had a lot of potential that was thankfully fulfilled in the chapters that have been released, and if ever a series deserved a proper ending, then this is the one. A lot of the series that I've worked on have either ended prematurely or were just simply axed, but none have I wanted to continue more than this series. So if you're a fan of the series, please enjoy these last few chapters for now and then maybe we can celebrate the series getting more chapters in the future.

There's No Place Like Home!

It took us only about two weeks of work, but here we are at the conclusion of Shounen Oujo volume 5 with chapter 31. As we mentioned before, this is currently the latest released chapter on Comic it's website until it restarts next month. There's really no way to know when volume 6 will be released. It could be as early as May or perhaps as late as August, but if they want to try to tie it in with the drama CDs released next year, there's probably a better chance of it being closer to May or maybe even April.

The drama CDs themselves are actually rather expensive. Altogether with the shipping, it would probably cost around $80 (to put this in perspective of what we already spend on volumes, this would be around 7 or 8 volumes with shipping), so we would like to release the drama CDs fully translated if we have the available funds to justify buying them.

We're All a Product of Our Fate!

It's been a long, eight month wait, but Shounen Oujo returns with chapter 26 at the start of volume 5! And luckily, there hasn't been too much in the way of hiatuses with this series as of late, though currently the manga is taking a 4 month break that started back in June, so by the time we finish this volume, we'll be all caught up with the series until it restarts in October.

It's always great to go back to a series we've been working on for so long, almost 5 years now, though if you don't count that 2 year hiatus it had between 2013 and 2015, I guess it's more like 3 years. Shounen Oujo is now our second-oldest ongoing series, the oldest being Kuragehime, which itself has been plagued by hiatuses over the past 2 years or so (and is still on hiatus as of now, and will most likely not come back until next year). Shounen Oujo is one of our most-cherished series, and one we feel privileged to work on over all these years, even if it only amounts to one volume a year on average.

And in related news, those Shounen Oujo drama CDs are finally getting released next year: the first in January and the second in March. The first volume will be an adaptation of volume 1 in addition to an extra story focusing on Guy, and the second volume will adapt volume 2 in addition to an extra story focusing on Theo. We will see about releasing them.

You Are Who You Are!

And now we come to the end of Shounen Oujo volume 4 with chapters 24 and 25, which we luckily were able to get done before the end of the year, as this will be our last release of 2015.

This is one of our most beloved series, and we hope that shows from all the work we put into the chapters, and how quick we're able to release the chapters once a volume comes out, which unfortunately is not all that often. Although there is no way to predict at this point when exactly the next volume comes out, seeing as how only two additional chapters have been released online, our tentative prediction is that volume 5 will come out sometime in 2016, possibly as early as August, or as late as November. However, if the manga ends with the next volume, it could be out as early as say June, but we'll see when we get there in six months.

As some final comments for the year, 2015 was probably the most transformative year we've had. When we started the year, we were still doing most of the series we had picked up over the past couple of years, but now most of those same series are all completed. Of all our major projects, there are only three left that predate any projects we picked up in 2015: Kuragehime, Shounen Oujo and Bokura no Hentai. The oldest pickup after that for our major projects is Boy Skirt, which we only started a year ago. So, while our projects have largely changed over the past year, our spirit and drive as a scanlation group is still going strong, and above all else, we are still primarily focused on gender bender series, more than any other group out there, as far as we know.

We've now reached the middle of the volume with Shounen Oujo chapter 22. In related news, although chapter 27 was just released on Comic It's website last week, it's taking a break next month, which of course means the release of volume 5 just got pushed back a month, whenever that may be. Obviously, it would appear that hiatuses, even short ones, still accompany this series, which does not bode well for a sooner rather than later release of volume 5. At this point, no more hiatuses would mean a release around the middle of 2016, but that's probably very unlikely. But although you can keep that in mind for later, there's still another three chapters left in this volume to get to, at least.

The Water is Always Bluer!

771 days. That is how long it's been since we released a chapter from Shounen Oujo, a series that we have now been working on for almost four years on and off, and yet have only three completed volumes and the current fourth volume to show for it. Why? Because this series, more than any other we've done, has been plagued by hiatuses almost since it began, not to mention taking a full two years off and then changing magazines earlier this year when it reappeared in Comic it in February.

To better put in perspective just how long it's been, since we finished volume 3 back in October 2013, we as a scan group have started and completed seven series (Kakukaku Shikajika, Oto Koi, Kyou Kara Yonshimai, Nisekoi Boyfriend, Full Dozer, Stop!! Hibari-kun!, and Hana wa Nisemono) and completed another five series we were already doing at the time (Himegoto, Josou Shounen, Sweet Magic Syndrome, Kenjutsu Komachi, and Usotsuki Lily, plus an assortment of series from Waai/Mahalo). In fact, of the series we are currently still doing, only two of our major projects that we were doing at the time still have yet to be completed (Kuragehime and Bokura no Hentai).

So Shounen Oujo is as much a part of our past as it is our present and future whenever a new volume comes up, as one did last month. In the end, we are very pleased to say something we have been dying to say for over two years now: Shounen Oujo chapter 20 is finished at the start of volume 4. In the chapter, there is a change in the spelling of a previously minor character's name, originally rendered as Shellvon, but this has been changed to Shelwon. Other than that, everything else is the same, including the massive amount of love we pour into this series to make reading it as enjoyable, and as close to it's original ambiance, as possible. So please enjoy as we once again work on this incredible series.

And as one more additional piece of news, Shounen Oujo is reportedly getting a two-volume drama CD series next year with Natsuki Hanae as Albert, Takahiro Sakurai as Guy, Takuma Terashima as Theodore, and Daisuke Hirakawa as Olivier. Based on these characters, and the fact that Alexia is not present, we can assume it's essentially going to adapt scenes from volume 2, and maybe also volume 3, but we'll have to wait and see.

Today, we are happy to present chapter 19 of Shounen Oujo, the last chapter of volume 3 and as of this writing, the most recently published chapter. The most recent issue of Sylph says that Utako Yukihiro is still serializing her Uta no Prince-sama - Maji Love 2000%, so it's unknown when she'll restart Shounen Oujo. What we do know, at least going by the preview at the end of this volume, is that volume 4 is expected to be released sometime in 2014, and going by when the last three volumes came out, we can assume that it'll probably be released in either August or September, which means Yukihiro may restart Shounen Oujo no later than January or February (if there aren't any unforeseen delays). What this means for you and us, unfortunately, is that there is going to be a very long wait until we restart this series. So with that, enjoy this wonderful chapter.

Shounen Oujo has finally returned after more than 10 months with chapter 15! Thanks to everyone who's been patient for this, since this series seems to be plagued with hiatuses. In fact, the manga is still currently on hiatus in Japan, and has been since February, so the chapters in this volume are the most recent releases until it restarts in Sylph. But with Utako Yukihiro still serializing Uta no Prince-sama - Maji Love 2000% in Sylph, it might not be until early next year that we start seeing more of Shounen Oujo in the magazine.

Finally, the conclusion of Shounen Oujo volume 2, chapters 13 and 14, are done. Due to the author taking a break on this series earlier this year, as of now, chapter 16 was published a couple of weeks ago, meaning there won't be enough content for volume 3 until next spring, as indicated on the preview page at the end of the volume, so probably either May or June.
