Finally, we now come to the end of Moyashimon volume 9 with chapters 108, 109 and 110. That leaves only 4 volumes and 49 chapters left in the series. Coincidentally, it's been almost exactly 10 years since the first anime's premiere, and honestly, we never could have guessed that 10 years later after first watching that anime that we'd be relatively close to completing the manga, or that we'd even be working on it at all, that being three years before Hachimitsu Scans was even formed. But we're as committed as ever in finishing this series, because it is without a doubt one of the most unique and incredible manga we've ever encountered. However, we'll be taking a short break with this series so we can do a couple of our other projects, which I'll get to in a minute.
Tomorrow is also our seventh anniversary as a scanlation group. For the past seven years, we have been scanlating primarily gender bender-related series, which was largely born out of the fact that gender bender series were and still are often overlooked by most scan groups for one reason or another, and even to this day, you'd be hard pressed to find any other group who has done as many gender bender-related series as we have. So over the past seven years, we've released well over 1,000 chapters from dozens of series and even more authors (thanks to all the one-shots we've done, primarily from the Josou Shounen series) across over 900 posts to this blog that's been viewed over 4.1 million times. We've also received $1,440 since we've started accepting donations (in 2011), which has aided us greatly in the purchasing of raws, and pretty much the only way we can actively show thanks for that is in trying to start and finish individual volumes relatively quickly, especially since a lot of our projects have long periods of time between volume releases. So we thank everyone for their support over the years, and hope to continue for years to come.
And now for an update on our projects and what we'll be doing for the rest of the year. First of all, as mentioned above, we are taking a short break from Moyashimon so we can work on Kami-sama no Ekohiiki v02 and Mizutama Honey Boy v07, which we'll be working on simultaneously. However, we will probably finish both of those this month, so we expect to get back to Moyashimon before the end of October. Following this, Shiomi-chan v03 comes out on November 10, and Kuragehime's 17th and last volume is finally going to be coming out on November 13, and we are going to give priority to it shortly thereafter so we can complete our oldest project that we've been working on since the very beginning seven years ago, so we are extremely excited about that next month.
As for our other projects, Shounen Oujo has been on hiatus since June, and there's really no way to know when it'll be coming back. Similarly, LiLy has also been on hiatus since March, even though we had suspected that it would have restarted by now because the author took a break because of maternity leave, so we'll just have to wait and see.
And on an unrelated note, there was recently a video posted interviewing Hisashi Eguchi, the author of Stop!! Hibari-kun! that we worked on a couple years ago. Of interest in the video is Eguchi's interest to work on manga again, and suffice it to say, we would jump at the chance to work on it if such a manga ever materialized. So if you read Hibari-kun, the video is an interesting look into the author.
So we hope you enjoy the end of Moyashimon volume 9 as we draw ever closer to its completion.

ReplyDeleteAnd, wow, seven years? That's almost as long as I've been reading manga. Keep up the great work, and here's to hoping you can continue without a hitch for many years to come!
man, it hurts a bit everytime you take a rest from translating this manga, but thanks for all you have done
ReplyDeleteHappy anniversary!
ReplyDeleteI've been reading manga for rather longer than seven years, but my interest in gender bender manga is somewhat more recent. And it's mostly your fault. Thanks. :)
Happy belated Anniversary, Hachimitsu!!
