Snips and Snails and Puppy Dog Tails!
Kami-sama no Ekohiiki volume 4 now concludes with chapters 22 and 23. As stated at the end of the volume, the fifth and final volume comes out in late June, and we will most likely be working on it shortly after its release.
That said, recent events in this series have taken a turn that I suppose could have been predicted as early as volume 2, but that which certainly couldn't have been foreseen when we started this series last year, i.e. that it is no longer a gender bender series as of volume 4. Personally, that was kind of a hard pill to swallow, and we have seen other people comment along that same line elsewhere, so I would just like to say to those people, I share your disappointment. When we decide to do a gender bender series, we obviously expect it to remain a gender bender series throughout the story, but if there's one thing that we've come to understand about Ayumi Komura over the years is that she is very unpredictable.
Even though we were already committed at the time to do Komura's next series after Mori no Takuma-san, it was still invigorating to see her tackling another gender bender series after Usolily, especially considering that both Full Dozer and Takuma-san weren't gender benders, either. Obviously, it comes as no surprise that there's an added emphasis and enjoyment we put on gender benders, and Kamieko was no different, at least until volume 4. However, we are still committed to finishing the series, and we'll see what happens with Komura after that.
In other news, we'll be starting on Mizutama Honey Boy v08 later this week, but first comes finishing up Nettaigyo v01.

Soooooo cute...
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the next volume... I wonder if yashiro is going to be the top?! Hehe 😈
Thank you so much for such a perfect work (:
I get where some people are coming from, with how things developed like this. I myself enjoyed the gender bender aspect as well.
ReplyDeleteIn the end, however, I'm glad it was temporary. He only wanted to be reborn a girl because he thought that was the only way his feelings would be accepted and returned by Kenta; he didn't want to be a girl for himself. And then there was that bit about yukihiro's ex. Considering how Komura's works have been incorporating a more, well, inclusive message about love, this development is rather more in line, I think.
Thanks so much for your work on this series, and I look forward to the last volume!
Thank you very much for your hard work to share, I'm really looking forward to read!!
ReplyDeleteI get that y'all like gender bender stories, but I was really happy with how volume 4 progressed. I think too often gender bender tropes take away from legitimate lgbt stories and it was nice to see this one used as a temporary plot device to further character growth instead. It makes me happy to see her writing more inclusive stories. And gosh, I almost fell out of my chair when an actual transgender character showed up (in a gender bender manga, no less).
ReplyDeleteThanks for the work and I'm looking forward to see its conclusion!
Thank you so much for the chapters!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the next volume!!
