Edit: Typo on pg. 11 fixed and reuploaded. Replace with

Thank you!
ReplyDeleteIt seems like the translator is using he/him as Mogumo's pronouns which seems straight up wrong. Page 11 also has a typo in the bottom frame.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, Tetsu accepts Mogumo being nonbinary so it wouldn't make sense for him to use he/him when referring to Mogumo.
ReplyDeletePeople have been confused over Mogumo in particular, wondering if they were all kinds of things (intersex, no gender?, etc).
DeleteI imagine Hachimitsu is awaiting for a consise explanation on what Mogumo really feels, like how we eventually got Ayumu which basically explained in no unclear terms that Satori (and by implication, Mei) are trans? It might be a little too hasty to decide on any conclusive terms what describes Mogumo best for now, even though non-binary is the most obvious option so far.
I'd like to see Mogumo being referred with neutral pronouns as well, but we'll see. Mei and Satori's pronouns were switched at probably the most fitting moments, after all - maybe we'll have a moment like that with Mogumo? Though, it took longer for the other characters to realize how Satori and Mei thought about themselves, compared to Mogumo...
If only it were possible to avoid gender-specific pronouns in English without it sounding unnatural. There's only one Mogumo (much as we'd all like to have one of our own), so "they" is grammatically incorrect. You can write "(s)he", but people don't actually say that in real life. And "it" is just plain rude. What can you do?
DeleteIt's not the 19th century anymore, were using singular they again. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singular_they
