Better Late Than Never!

In one of our biggest and momentous releases to date, we have decided to pick up the classic gender bender series Stop!! Hibari-kun! by Hisashi Eguchi! We'd first like to thank an anonymous commenter last month who mentioned the series and made us seriously rethink doing it, and although it is going to amount to a lot of work, and may take us quite a while to complete it, we decided to do it in the end, so here we are now.

If you've never heard of the series, we don't really blame you, since it's over 33 years old! Yes, it started serialization in Weekly Shounen Jump of all magazines on October 19, 1981, which makes today exactly 33 years and two months to the day from when it first appeared in the magazine. This was even long before some of the most famous manga to come out of that magazine even appeared, including Fist of the North Star, Dragon Ball, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and more recently One Piece, Naruto and Bleach. So it's been a long time coming for someone to scanlate it, and if anyone was going to do it, I suppose it would be us.

Hibari-kun's story goes like this. On her death bed, Kousaku Sakamoto's mother tells him that after she dies, he should go to Tokyo where he'll be taken care of by her friend Ibari Oozora and his family. Since his father died three years before and with no where else to go, Kousaku decides to go along with his mother's last request. However, he soon discovers that Ibari is the boss of the Oozora Group mob ring. Uneasy about his predicament, he considers leaving, but he has second thoughts when he meets Ibari's four daughters–Tsugumi, Tsubame, Suzume and Hibari–only to find out that Hibari is actually Ibari's only son. Now Kousaku must not only cope with living among mobsters but also with refusing Hibari's advances toward him.

Despite the series being so old, it actually only recently got republished in the first-ever fully complete edition, which also includes several chapters never previously republished in separate volumes over the years. So if ever there was a time to scanlate the manga over the past 33 years, it only really became a worthwhile venture since 2009, so thanks Shogakukan for recompiling this series.

With that said, we are kicking off the series with the first 4 chapters! And as an extra bonus, many of the chapters are in full-color, including chapters 1 and 4 in this release. So please feel free to check it out and see what you think about this blast from the past.

  1. Oh man, awesome! I fell in love with this series after I watched the handful of subbed anime episodes, but I didn't think anyone would ever pick it up. Thank you so much!

    1. Are there more similar to this? Yet to be translated and etc?

    2. The other one that had been around a while and untranslated was Satsuki Complex. Someone did recently start working on it, but only the first 5 chapters or so are translated so far, and it's not the best quality.

  5. HOLY CRAP HOLY CRAP HOLY CRAP I've been wanting to read this for YEARS :'D THANKS FOR WORKING ON IT AHHH *w*

Ugh, now if only someone would work on Kunisaki Izumo no Jijou my life would be complete. (And I don't count the Cross Dressing Channel as "working" on it since their release quality is so terrible it appears to be a troll... never mind the fact they've gone MIA.)

    1. Kunisaki Izumo no Jijou is tricky. I did almost everything on chapter 45 and 46. But couldn't work anymore. And Girly Boy took over. But as you say, the quality was terrible. I tried helping him, but he simply didn't listen. And you can see the result. Those dreadful chapters.

  6. This is probably the nicest xmas present ever. I have a copy of the whole thing scanned but moon runes ruined the trap experience until now. Thanks Hachimitsu scans, you're the best!

  7. Awesome, thanks for picking this up!

Are y'all aware of Fumi Fumiko's other manga running right now, Sakura no Sono? It's available online (with fairly high-quality pages) and seems pretty interesting; some of the same themes as Bokura no Hentai, same cute art (maybe cuter?), and a weird setting I don't quite grasp.
The printed volume is pretty high quality too, though I don't know if the second one is out yet. Just a heads-up!

  8. Didn't think I'd ever see this scanlated. Especially since the anime seems destined to never be completely fansubbed, this is a particularly pleasant surprise. Thanks for being proficient in your niche, Hachimitsu Scans.

  17. I wasn't expecting this.

It's a classic, and I always wanted to check this out.
My interest started not only because it's a really old GB, but also because it was published on Jump and even managed to get an anime.
